Melynda Enslow

Melynda Enslow, Hospital Administrator

Originally from Connecticut, Melynda Enslow moved to North Carolina in the winter of 2004. Having worked in the human medical field prior to her move, she decided this transplant created the perfect opportunity to change careers and focus on her true passion, companion animal care. She quickly found a position at a local veterinary hospital and has worked in the animal field ever since. Over 10 years of professional experience has provided her with a unique perspective of the importance each role plays in the daily functions of a veterinary hospital.

Melynda's care and concern for companion animals ensures that exceptional customer service and quality medical care are provided to all of the hospital's clients and patients. She aims to use her skills and knowledge to guarantee that every visit delivers the best veterinary experience possible. Team growth, engagement and satisfaction are the foundation of a positive work environment and Melynda dedicates herself each day to creating this culture by example.

"Seeing our wonderful clients and their pets is the highlight of my day! We all share a common bond; an unconditional love for our furry companions."

Melynda believes in the importance of community involvement, service and mentorship. In her free time, she volunteers as a "Big Sister" with the Big Brother Big Sister of Cabarrus County program which focuses on individual mentorship for at-risk youth. As a cancer survivor, she also volunteers her time and helps to raise money for the annual Cabarrus County Relay for Life event which supports cancer research through the American Cancer Society. As an artist, Melynda instructs painting classes for adults, teens and children through the City of Concord Parks and Recreation department.

When Melynda is not working or volunteering, she enjoys spending her free time with her husband, Allen, and their "fur-children," a Rat Terrier named Amadeus, a rescued kitten named Inara and three ferrets named Thunder Rat, Jewel & Jezebel. Her other hobbies include reading, writing, painting, singing, camping, drawing & baking.

Our StaffLiz McIlwain, RVT, Hospital Services Coordinator, Physical Rehabilitation Staff

Liz McIlwain has been a Steele Creek Animal Hospital staff member since 2001. Dedicated and loyal to all the hospital's clients and patients, Liz oversees the hospital's excellent technical staff while participating herself in every aspect of patient care. Along with coworker Starla Norman, Liz maintains the hospital inventory and medical equipment. Liz is a registered veterinary technician in the state of North Carolina and enjoys combining veterinary medicine with her past experience as a human therapy assistant in our Physical Rehabilitation Services.

"I enjoy working at a progressive hospital whose staff is dedicated to providing optimum care to our clients and their pets," Liz said.

She has an associate's degree from Gaston College and a bachelor's degree from Berea College. (Her father is also a retired veterinarian and Liz spent many hours at his small clinic helping out in a variety of jobs.)

At home, Liz takes care of her dogs, Belle and Trixie, and two cats, Mercy and Nuisance. Outside of work, she spends most of her free time with her daughter and husband and, as a family, they all enjoy dining out, watching movies, and spending time outdoors. "We love seeking new adventures together," Liz said.


Starla Norman & See LeeOur Staff

Starla Norman, Patient Services, Physical Rehabilitation Staff

One of our longest-tenured patient caregivers, Starla has been with Steele Creek Animal Hospital since 2002. Starla leads our patient services team with devotion to patient care that is extraordinary. "Always smiling", "very creative", and "able to fix most anything" are all ways to accurately describe Starla. Along with coworker Liz McIlwain, she maintains the hospital inventory and medical equipment. Starla spends most of her time inspiring and working with our Physical Rehabilitation patients and their owners. Using her "horse sense", she can motivate almost any patient to try harder.

Starla has two dogs, Australian cattle dog Hank and Australian shepherd Bell, as well as a Quarter horse named Cowboy. She enjoys trail riding and camping in her spare time.


See Lee, Client Services

For See Lee, one of the best features of her job as Steele Creek Animal Hospital's receptionist is the "sloppy kisses" she receives from the patients. She joined the hospital in February 2007, and her responsibilities include customer service, answering the phone, and checking patients in and out of the hospital. Most canine patients include handing out dog treats among See's job responsibilities. She is currently enrolled in the nursing program at Central Piedmont Community College.

"I love working at Steele Creek Animal Hospital because the medical care and medical team that we provide for our clients and their furry best friends is of the highest quality," See said.

At home, she has three pit bulls: Bambi, Lelo, and Rhino.


Our Staff Brittney Leigh Cope

Brittney Leigh Cope, Client Services

Since joining Steele Creek Animal Hospital in August 2012, Brittney's goal has been to brighten someone's day every day. Her job responsibilities include scheduling appointments, answering the phone, checking clients and their pets in and out of the hospital, and making sure the hospital is presentable at all times.

"I love the client-employee relationships that I witness here. It is refreshing to work at a clinic where customer satisfaction is the highest priority," said Brittney. She is currently pursuing a liberal arts degree and previously worked at a grooming salon/pet supply store.

At home, she cares for three dogs and a cat and loves being outdoors, walking her dogs in the park, and taking weekend trips to the beach.


Kera Oxendine & Kris DeLoye

Kera Oxendine, Client Services

Kera Oxendine has a wide variety of responsibilities at Steele Creek Animal Hospital, including preparing charts, scheduling appointments, answering phones, and keeping clients and their pets happy. Since she's joined the team, Kera has fast become known for bringing an infectious smile to each day and a willingness to help in any situation.

"I love working with the great people here. They have such an obvious love for animals,"Kera explains. "I also love to see all the wonderful rehab specialties. Dr. Young is running a wonderful practice here."

When she's not at our animal hospital, Kera enjoys reading, baking, trying new places and things, spending time with family, and volunteering at animal shelters. She's the proud pet parent to a Border Collie/Lab mix named Vendetta.

Kris DeLoye, Patient Services

With her extensive knowledge of dog breeds, Kris DeLoye is a valuable member of our patient services team. Her job responsibilities include educating clients on proper pet care, assisting with surgeries and dental procedures, performing diagnostic procedures for patients and assisting with pets' physical rehabilitation. Kris enjoys helping dogs feel relaxed and easing their anxiety when they arrive at the hospital. She is certified to perform Penn Hip x-rays and has been working at Steele Creek Animal Hospital since April 2005.

"Steele Creek Animal Hospital offers the highest level of pet care and compassion," Kris said. "We have a great team."

At home, Kris enjoys the companionship of her four dogs - Boston, Joplin, Simba and Charlie. She participates in showing dogs for conformation and obedience and is a member of the Borzoi Club of America.

In her spare time, Kris likes to travel, decorate, and collect vintage dog memorabilia.

Cynthia Lynn Zegilla McKinney, RVT, Patient Services

Registered veterinary technician Cynthia Lynn Zegilla McKinney has been with Steele Creek Animal Hospital since January 2010 and holds a bachelor's degree in biology in addition to her associate's degree in veterinary technology. Her duties include general animal care, anesthesia, dental and surgical assistance, and laboratory work.

At home, Cyndy cares for two dogs, Max and Roophus, and five cats, Taluse, Whiner, Delilah, Pussifer, and Tootie. She enjoys playing with her son as well as swimming and reading.


Maddy CizMadia

Maddy CizMadia, Patient Services

Maddy joined the Steele Creek Animal Hospital team in July of 2013 when she was still in high school. She started as a kennel assistant but has since learned and gained enough experience to be a technician assistant.

"I love working at Steele Creek Animal Hospital because of the wonderful medicine and patient care that we practice, and because of how well our staff all work together."

Maddy is currently studying undergraduate biology and pre-veterinary medicine at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and planning to apply to veterinary school during the summer of 2017. Outside of school and work, she loves spending time with her horse, Sparkle, and helping with therapeutic horseback riding for special needs children.

Susana Abraham

Susana Abraham, Patient Services

Susana joined the Steele Creek Animal Hospital team in October of 2015 as a kennel assistant. During her time in this role, she focused on providing exceptional patient care by ensuring that all the patients' needs were met. Through hard work and dedication she was quickly promoted to our technician assistant role where she continues to put our patients' needs first as well as assisting our doctors. She is currently working towards obtaining her Bachelor's Degree as a Surgical Technician through Central Piedmont Community College.

"I treat every dog and cat as if they are my own fur babies because they feel like family!"

In her free time, Susana enjoys doing yoga, cooking and pet sitting.

Haley Hammond

Haley Hammond, Patient Services

Haley Hammond joined the Steele Creek Animal Hospital team in May 2016 as a kennel assistant. She is currently attending Animal Behavior College to receive her Veterinary Assistant Certification and is set to graduate in the fall of 2016. Haley's love for animals and desire to take care of them drives her to pursue a career in the veterinary field and join our team.

"The best part about my job is knowing that I'm helping an animal in need each and every day."

Outside of work, Haley loves to spend time with her friends and family. She is also the proud owner of two sweet cats and one energetic chocolate lab.

Jodi Casto

Jodi Casto, RVT, Patient Services

Jodi was born and raised in Maryland before she relocated to Virginia and enrolled at Bridgewater College where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 2009. After moving to Charlotte, NC, Jodi joined the Steele Creek Animal Hospital team as a kennel assistant in 2010. While working at our hospital, she attended Gaston College's Veterinary Technician program. She was quickly moved from a kennel assistant role into a technician position as her studies progressed. In 2011, she obtained her RVT license after completing her veterinary technician boards.

Jodi enjoys hiking with her dog, photography, and reading. She can get lost in a book just as well as she can get lost in nature. Her household consists of a toy poodle, Rory, a Boxer, Mudd, a tea cup Chihuahua, Minion and a mini plush lop rabbit she calls Mr. Custer.

Kara Rodriguez

Kara Rodriguez, Client Services

Kara joined the Steele Creek Animal Hospital team in December of 2015. As a veterinary receptionist, she most enjoys seeing our patients leave the hospital even healthier and happier than they were when they first came in the door. Kara wants to ensure that our clients and their pets have a great experience during their visit and she makes this her primary focus when completing her responsibilities including answering customer phone calls, checking patients in for their appointments and filing patient records.

"My favorite thing about working at Steele Creek Animal Hospital is seeing the great relationships between clients and their pets, and between pets and their doctors. It is easy to see how much the people that work here care about the families that come in and the overall well-being of each pet."

At home, Kara enjoys spending time with friends and family. She has one dog, an Australian Shepherd/Rottweiler mix named Honey.

Adrian Myers

Adrian Myers, Patient Services

Adrian's love for animals brought him to the Steele Creek Animal Hospital team in September of 2015. He started working in our boarding kennel, caring for our clients' pets and is now training to become a technician assistant. He hopes to further expand his knowledge and education while continuing to help animals on a daily basis.

"I love working here at Steele Creek Animal Hospital. There are so many amazing animals that we see every day!"

Outside of work, Adrian loves to take his English Mastiff, Hooch, to dog parks and socialize him with other dogs. At home, he spends a lot of time caring for his animals including a pet prairie dog and sugar glider.

Brittany Taylor & Brittany Elmore

Brittany Elmore, Patient Services

Brittany joined our hospital in the summer of 2016. Since childhood, Brittany's parents have shared their love of animals with her, and they have always been a big part of her life. She is actively pursuing a career in the animal care field as a veterinary technician at Gaston College.

She says, "I started working at Steele Creek Animal Hospital because I believe that pets are family members. At the end of the day making them feel as such will always put a smile on my face, as well as the customer's."

Outside of work, Brittany enjoys spending time with her family and giving love and attention to her dog, Prada, and her cat, Felix.

Brittany Taylor, Client Services

Brittany joined our team in May 2016 as a receptionist. She brings a strong passion for animals to her role and responsibilities, some of which include answering customer phone calls, scheduling patient appointments and preparing patient charts.

She says, "I enjoy seeing the love our clients have for their animals. We have the best doctors that want only the best for our patients!"

During her free time Brittany enjoys crafting and spending quality time with her friends and family, including her chinchilla, Rosie.
